TRUE AMBASSADOR
ADMIRAL'S CHRISTMAS
Admiral Halsey - Soky's Shadow
Bay/Brown Stallion; Foaled 1992
It is not often the achievements of one horse can be acknowledged as single handedly being responsible for the promotion of a breed, and a highly unfashionable one at that, in elite company. SPPHAWA has recognized the outstanding achievements of the stallion Admiral's Christmas in the show ring by inducting him with the highest honour of a "True Ambassador" award. To attain this award a horse has to accumulate 1,000 points to qualify; that had many scoffing it would be unattainable!
Admiral's Christmas arrived from NZ as a battered yearling after a traumatic trip resulting in a fall and being trampled. On his arrival there were grave concerns about an exposed tendon injury along with lacerations and swelling all over. These injuries halted his early education and further delayed his racing career until he was four. A near fatal bout of colitis and an ongoing degenerating knee issue (due to the floating accident) his race career was ended as a 5 year old resulting in 8 wins, 3 places from 19 starts. Nick's showing debut was made as a 7 year old at the Gosnells Winter Breed Show where he was placed third in the Best Presented class and third in a field of 3 stallions. His showing was put on the back burners over the next two seasons while attending stud duties.
In April 2007 at the Orange Grove Breed Show Nick won his first Supreme of Supreme joining Standardbreds Easy Sunshine, Bank Manager and Mr Flash as previous winners. Further testament to the quality of this entire is the ability to amass another nine Supreme of Supreme titles; 1 Supreme Led Horse; numerous Runner Up SOS and uncountable top 5 & 3 of shows to stand him head and shoulders above his peers.
Although not a commercial sire, from limited opportunities he has produced All Rapt Up (1.57.1) and winner of 12 races and in excess of $100,000 along with Admiral Bardot a winner of 2 races from only a handful of starts to date. His progeny in the show ring have excelled through the deeds of his daughter Adina Park Phedora, herself winning a Supreme of Supreme at the age of 2 and numerous top 5 & 3 of shows. In another first he became the only horse to win two disciplines in the same year at a State Championships. Usually an honour of this caliber would be awarded on a horse's retirement, but SPPHAWA felt it necessary and fitting to acknowledge the outstanding achievement as he has well and truly passed all the qualifying criteria before any plans of his retirement.

Bronze Roll of Merit
PAZAM
Paysons Brother - Jessie Grace
Chestnut Stallion; Foaled 1995
Watching this horse compete over his two & a half year career has been a great example of how this wonderful breed can accept and adapt to the conditions and tasks put to them. Not only did he start his career as a talented race horse that had him win 22 races and over $130,000 in stake money but he was certainly proving his worth in the show ring.
Pazam was highly competitive in the halter ring, but unfortunately for him he had to compete against Admiral's Christmas in the stallion class which was always a daunting task in itself. With many close encounters he eventually did become victorious on one occasion that saw him go on to be sashed Supreme Standardbred. Other led performances of credit were Reserve Champion Stallion at the Perth Royal Show in 2005 and 2006 and also at the SPPHAWA Horse of the Year Show in 2006. Always immaculately presented would see excellent results in Best Presented and Turnout classes, taking Best Presented at the Royal Show in 2004 & 2005 and never defeated in a ridden Standardbred Turnout class.
Ridden events would be where Pazam would show outstanding performances and alleviating him into this elite status. In his first ridden year of competition saw him take Champion Hack Over 15hh at the State Championships and later on that year be awarded the prestigious Champion Ridden at the Perth Royal Show. His greatest achievement would come in 2006 at the Pinjarra Breed Show where he was placed in the Top 5 Ridden Horse of the Show. In the inaugural year of the National Competition he was awarded a Top 5 Ridden Exhibit proving further testiment to his ability.
Sadly on the morning of February 11 2007, as we were preparing to compete at the Gosnells Breed Show, we were notified that his promising career had been cut short after coming down with an inoperable colic attack which would see him laid to rest. Although he had not quite reached the full honours of becoming a Bronze Role of Merit inductee the committee voted to promote this horse as it was unknown what he could have achieved if he was still able to compete.
