GOSNELLS WINTER BREED SHOW - AUGUST 2008

At the first Point Show for the season numbers were generally good and the weather was even better.
After easily accounting for his rivals in the Standardbred classes to take Champion Ridden Exhibit, Glyding Moments and Lisa Carson went on to compete in the Champion of Champion ridden against twenty other breed winners for the day.'Lombo' worked with his usual brilliance and was duly rewarded when they went on to be placed in the Top Five Champion of Champions Ridden.
It was later revealed that four of the seven judges initially had Glyding Moments as the runner up before one of the judges was swayed in another direction. This horse is an inspiration to all owners of Standardbreds and SPPHAWA would like to congratulate Lisa and “Lombo” on their superb effort.

RIVERSIDE HACK SHOW - JUNE 2008

Dynamite Trunkey and Jackie Searies braved the inclement weather when competing in the Unofficial Open Hack ring with outstanding results recently.

“Trixie” worked solidly in every class under somewhat trying conditions with horses and riders not only having to contend with the rain but slippery conditions underfoot. The combination won Turnout, Heavyweight and Best Educated and placed second in their respective Height class. In the Champion workout Dynamite Trunkey continued to work well and out moved her rivals in the extended trot passage that clinched the Champion Unofficial Hack.

This mare has always displayed moments of brilliance but has proved more than a handful for Jackie with her mare attitude since being educated under saddle. Jackie has been more than despondent at shows over the last eighteen months, at times thinking of not continuing with her. Plenty of training, lessons and taking aboard the advice of people in the know including a number of judges now has this combination reaping the rewards. SPPHAWA congratulates Dynamite Trunkey and Jackie on a wonderful result for the Standardbred.

HEATHER WOODLEY & MR BUCKLEY - GIDGEGANNUP ODE

In the Dressage he behaved impeccably - I was nearly in tears at the end of the test because it was just so smooth and tidy, he didn't make a single mistake, I knew it was his best yet. The results reflected this, with 61.6%, and we even got an 8 for the entry! The judge, Benita Wilson (who is an A level judge) commented that I just need to get him striding a bit longer and be careful he doesnt drop behind the contact, but apart from that she was impressed with him! (I also had some other competitors come and talk to me about how they were impressed to see a standardbred doing such nice ridden work and how good he looked under saddle!). This placed us 4th in a class of 22, on 57.6 penalty points.

The next day started with the showjumping - the part I find most daunting because I really don't know what I am doing! Our round wasn't very tidy, Buckley was having a bit of a look at the brightly coloured jumps, but he jumped clear and under time, which took us up a placing to 3rd!

Finally the fun part - the cross country! Last year I had forgotten to start my watch and he had come in VERY undertime and been penalised heavily for it, so this year I was determined to come in on time! Buckley was so well behaved, walked calmly into the start box and stood weighting for his cue to go, before shooting off when we were told to start. He didn't so much as blink at a fence, even going into the water very calmly, and although i had to hold him back the whole way around to stop from going too fast, he never once resisted. We jumped the last fence (after a clear round) right on optimum time and so incurred no penalties.

This left us finishing on 57.6 penalties - and therefore placing 2nd in the Senior intro 2! I really couldn't have asked him to be better behaved the entire weekend, he was perfect! Next we are going to try 80cm (intro 1)

It is a nice change from a decade of arabs, to be able to canter calmly around a cross country course in a KK training bit, despite the adrenaline pumping through
both of us! He looks after me so well, as this is so new to me too, and is just a pleasure to own, train and compete on.

PINTO SOCIETY ALL-BREEDS HALTER SHOW 2009

As classes were offered, this show was instated as a point show for the Partbreds, but unfortunately only one horse was entered. The yearling colt Rumble Hill Dipped In White, although making his show debut created a lot of interest in the ring. He was automatically awarded Champion Partbred due to no competition. Later in the day he also won Best Presented Pinto, second in Colt 3yrs & Under Pinto class and Reserve Champion Pinto Colt/Stallion. The highlight of the day came about in the Supreme of Supreme ring when both Adina Park Darcy Woods and stable mate Rumble Hill Dipped In White, representing the Standardbred and Partbred Standardbred respectively, were both awarded Top Five Supreme of Supreme Horse of the Show rosettes. It was a very proud pair of owners in Kristie Morrone (Darcy) and Nycole Gardiner (Roy) on the achievement of both horses. Kristie, who has been preparing Roy for the show ring, was later informed that the colt missed out by one vote on being awarded R/Up of the show.

B AN ARISTOCRAT & JULIE HOWE - DRESSAGE CHAMPIONS

Aristotle came to me nearly two years ago when I lost my show horse and was unable to find anything suitable to replace him. I had thought it would be a short term option and was simply doing Adult riding and unofficial competitions with him. We went to a few unofficial dressage days with great results, finishing the year with a double win in large preliminary classes at the SEC grounds. We made the decision then to take the plunge and go official dressage for the 2008 season and see what we could achieve. We were very fortunate to be able to attend regular lessons with the only level 3 instructor in the state, who recognized the problems that faced us with his breeding. Her way of thinking though, is simply that all horses have problems and we just have to work with them. She has never let his parentage be an excuse. She has ridden him on many occasions and I am awe of the change in him when given cues “from an expert”.Consistent work and training for both me and Aristotle have achieved some amazing results, ones that we are so proud of.I firmly believe that if we can achieve this, then anyone with a desire along with motivation, consistency, dedication and supervision can.

ADINA PARK PHEDORA TAKES THE TRIPLE

The star performance of the month of September would undoubtedly have to be the mare Adina Park Phedora at the recent Wanneroo Breed Show. "Jeda" was awarded SOS Exhibit in the Led section and then went on to be sashed Supreme All Breeds Ridden and then sealed a wonderful day by taking out Supreme Unofficial Hack. Judges from each ring commented that this mare worked with softness yet flair and her transitions were faultless. SPPHAWA congratulates Kristie and "Jeda" on a superb performance on further promoting the breed. Adina Park Phedora followed up her good form when selected in the Top Five of show at the Darling Range Breed show.

2011

Carly Hockridge and Devil's Choice have had a great season this year in the Unofficall Hack Ring. "Will works better and better every time he goes out" Their recent results for 2011 are:

Champion Unofficial Senior Rider and placing first in Hack over 15hh upto and including 16hh, Ladies Hack over 15hh and Show hunter Hack over 15hh at Perth Hack Day on 17th April. Will was extremely tired as this was the day after the SPPHAWA State Championship Show so his work was lacking that extra something to see him awarded a broad sash on this occasion.

Reserve Champion Hack at Perth Championships Hack Day 8th May.

Will worked a treat throughout the day and was awarded 1st in the Lightweight hack over 15hh and Show hunter Hack over 15hh to see him go through to the champion workout. He then proceeded to do one of the best workouts he has ever pulled off and was awarded Reserve Champion Hack against some impressive competition.

TACKLING THE HACKING WORLD

ANGOSTURA WINNER OF SUPREME OF SUPREMES AT WANNEROO ALL BREEDS SHOW

What a beautiful day it turned out to be for all that attended the Wanneroo All Breeds Show in September, but especially for committee members Dave and Cindy Turnbull and their mare Angostura. With the sun shining the Standardbred classes began under Judge Diana Porter. Angostura and handler Dave won the best presented class, they were then awarded 1stplace in the mare 4yrs & over class and sashed Champion Mare. The duo also went on to win Supreme Standardbred Exhibit of the day. Once all the breed classes were finished the Supreme winners from all the different breeds worked out for the prestigious award of Supreme of Supremes over 14.2hh. The mare Angostura worked an absolute treat for handler Dave and showed off her athletic body and superb movement in her faultless workout and after a final look from the judges was pulled forward to be awarded Supreme of Supremes over 14.2hh of the day.

SPPHAWA would like to congratulate Dave & Cindy on their achievement!
