SPPHAWA hopes that all horses may Rest in Peace and sincere condolences go out to all who are/were affected by the passing of these majesic animals. They are gone but not forgotten.
LADY O'TARA
It is with a very heavy heart that member Jackie Searies suffered a terrible loss recently with the passing of Lady O’Tara or Daisy" as she was affectionately known. Jackie had to make the heart wrenching decision to have Daisy put to rest when she was barely able to move freely in the paddock. This little mare will be most remembered for her Champion Ridden award at the 2004 Perth Royal show and numerous Reserve Champions under saddle at state level. She was no slouch in Led classes as well with an abundance of Champion mare awards to her credit and winning Supreme led Exhibit at only her second show as a petite three year old. Hampered with on going lameness issues that resulted in her being treated initially at Murdoch University for arthritis in a fetlock joint when she had a severe reaction to a nerve block. Daisy was never to fully recover from this ordeal leaving Jackie full knowing that at some stage a decision would have to be made when her ability to enjoy paddock retirement would no longer be. Sadly, that time presented itself recently when the thirteen year old mare was laid to rest on the family property in the presence of her long time companion Saxon. Daisy was mated during one of her off periods to a Pinto Standardbred stallion and produced the impressionable Satinka Park Ashtaar who has already built a neat little show career and undoubtedly will carry his mothers legacy for years to come.
RUMBLE HILL DIPPED IN WHITE
It was a tragic occasion when the part bred two year old colt Rumble Hill Dipped In White also known as "Roy" passed away in January of 2011. Roy had taken the show ring by storm when at his first show as a yearling he was awarded a Top Five Of Show and continued this form throughout his debutant year. Among his accolades were numerous Supremes, R/Up Junior Exhibits, Finalist of Shows, Supreme Futurities and Junior Exhibits against All Breeds. He was awarded the SPPHAWA P/Bred Led award for last season defeating some very worthy competition. Being registered P/Bred Standardbred Roy excelled at our State Championships and HOTY shows with every judge taken in by his spunk, charisma and above all exceptional movement that had the making of an outstanding saddle prospect. His last show he attended at this level was the HOTY show in November after having some months off from showing to mature and become a horse. He definitely had matured into a stunning two year who was ready to take on the world. Connections of this horse were very excited about his future under saddle and unfortunately were devastated when his life was cut short in tragic circumstances at such a tender age. Our thoughts go out to Nycole and her dad on the loss of your special little boy. RIP "Roy Boy".
WOTZ MY SCENE
The committee and members wish to extend our deepest sympathy to member Deven Hall on the loss of her seven year old gelding on the 22nd February 2011. Deven has kindly forwarded a tribute in appreciation of the friendship and loyalty "Beau" over the last three years.
"I bought Beau in November 2008 as a four year old. Our first successful show was the Winterama in 2009 held at
the Muchea Polo Grounds where he took home two 1st, Champion and Supreme Standardbred. A few months later we continued our show scene never coming home empty handed. He always placed even if it was fourth or fifth. I was always happy with the results and how well behaved he was, especially at our first Perth Royal show in 2010. Although he did not place on this occasion, I was very proud how he was not phased about anything.
Beau was always there when you needed someone to talk to when you couldn’t talk to anyone else. He was always the attention seeker, or had to see what everyone was doing. He loved to be around everyone and acted like he was human almost. He was first serious show horse after starting out showing quarter horses in 2005. I got into the show scene after buying Beau.
Unfortunately on the 22nd February 2011 he was put to sleep due to a severe colic attack. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him, having been taken away from us at the age of seven. He will always be in our hearts forever. We miss you Beau, you will be with us forever". Deven Hall
OAKRIDGE ELEGANCE
1987-2009
Forever in my heart, My life, My love My Bess
The 19th May 1991 was a day that changed my life, that day I bought a scraggly underfed bay 3yr old Standardbred mare, Bess.
Affectionately known as “Boo”, she was my best friend and first child. For 18yrs she was always there willing to ride, play or lend an ear. Loyal to any human, but a bugger to the rest of the horsey world.
Bess and I joined WASBA (later to become SPPHAWA) in 1993 and never looked back, taking out both Champion Mare and Champion Ridden at our first breed show the Safety Brakes Breed Spectacular January 1993. Boy did I cry with every ribbon, coming from hacking, any ribbon was a blessing and a champion was a long wished for dream,
Over the wonderful 18yrs together Bess has won too many awards, champions and ribbons to list but the ones that meant the most to us, were the Top 10 Classic Hack Finalist 1994, Supreme Standardbred at Gosnells Breed Show against two other awesome Standardbreds and Boo with a full winter coat!. At the grand age of 20 she took out the Show Hunter of The Year in 2007 at the SHOTY after a massive in hand gallop with Queensland in sight she then halted and walked calmly on a long rein.
We always looked forward to a show in the rain, Boo proving her versatility never complained, if we hadn’t had a show in more than 3 weeks she got grumpy, she lived for it. Always the character she would often be seen standing in the float at shows, due to her untying herself and getting back on so she could be in the shade.
Never one to turn down food she would “mug” people for whatever it was they were eating and gained quite a fondness for cans of coke.
Tragically on October 10 2009 Bess was bitten by a snake and slipped into a coma. She was surrounded by family and Vet Michael until she finally passed over.
I cry as I write this not just for the loss, but also in fondness for the many years I was lucky enough to have with the one horse who has left hoof prints on my heart.
