The 2017 WA Standardbred Off the Track Series is under way! This year the 4 SPPHAWA run shows will offer First and Second placegetters to qualify and will be invited to the Grand Final. The other 3 Qualifying events will only allow the winner to be eligible for the Grand Final. The list of qualifying shows are listed below. Each horse that qualifies will receive a sash and saddle blanket, proudly donated by Off the Track WA. They will also be ineligible to compete in any other qualifying event this season. The 2016 series winner is automatically qualified for the 2017 final and is not eligible to enter any further qualifiers.
The aim of this series is to showcase the Standardbred as a Show Horse/Hunter prospect. As a minimum the horses are expected to perform walk, trot and canter in a balanced manner and in a nice outline, without showing signs of pacing. As a result if a horse competing in a qualifier does not meet this criteria then the winner or runner up sash may not be awarded.

Rosemount Lustre & Naomi Mead
Caught On Camera & Elissa Kettlewell
Prince Matao & Hannah Griffiths
The Unamed gelding by Joe Mazzini, shown as Royal Pride, was never tried as a racehorse but he has found his calling as a breed show exhibitor.
He has amassed some nice achievements over the past few years including a 2014 State Champion Ridden Title and Runner Up Open Hack in 2016, a State Championship Grand Champion Led Title in 2015, Supreme Led at the 2014 & 2015 Perth Royal Show including a Top 5 Led sash in the Supreme of Supreme and Champion Ridden in 2015 & 2016 at the Perth Royal Show. This goes along with countless Ridden Champion sashes at breed shows and is the current Off The Track Final Winner for 2015 and 2016.
As the Grand Final Winner from 2016 Royal Pride is an automatic Qualifier for the 2017 Grand Final
Scoot On By, a gelding by Magic Fella, raced as an early 2 and 3yo and was retired after 21 race starts for 8 places & stake earnings of $5940.
He started his showing career in 2010 where he was quick to pick up a Supreme Led award in his first season. He has since gone on to become a very successful Harness horse winning in open carriage classes in a race spider (which is not the desired vehicle). He has won countless Harness awards and has won the State Championship Harness Horse in 2015, 2016 & 2017.
Scoot is also showing his vast adaptability and improvement as a competitive saddle horse. He was third Runner Up at the 2015 Off The Track Final and had his biggest achievement recently when he was awarded Champion Open Hack at the 2017 Standardbred State Championships.
Rosemount Lustre is by the flashy chestnut stallion Saab and raced 14 times for 2 placings and $935 in prize money. She is one of only two foals from the lightly raced Safely Kept mare, Banyan View who also graced the show ring many years ago.
Rosemount Lustre is still in her growing phase as a saddle horse however has already proven herself with a Top 5 finish in last years Off The Track Grand Final.
Quite an impressive achievement with her limited outings and also still in the Intermediate Classification with SPPHAWA.
Rosie will once again be in the mix come Grand Final time this year with the flashy black mare improving with every outing.
Caught on Camera, a Parsons Den gelding is out of the unraced mare “Trial by Video”, whose dam “Lucent Bay” produced the talented performers “Ballantines” (1.59.9 $101,477) and “The Accelerator” (1.55.5 $244,009). Unfortunately Caught On Camera did not display the same ability and left the racing industry unraced.
The Big moving gelding has made a name for himself as a talented ridden horse, winning many Championships, including Champion Ridden Standardbred at the 2014 Perth Royal Show, Reserve Champion Ridden at the 2016 Royal Show and back to back State Champion Ridden Titles in 2015 & 2016.
The pair were also sashed Top 5 at the 2015 Off the Track Grand Final and went a few steps better to take out the Runner Up title at the 2016 Grand Final. This team will once again be in top order for this years Grand Final.
Prince Matao is by the New Zealand stallion Master Matao, out of the unraced mare A Single Yesterday. Prince Matao was prepped for racing and named however, due to injury, didn’t make it to the racetrack.
Prince Matao and Hannah are becoming regulars at the events in the past year with increasing success. The pair were awarded Champion Intermediate Hack at Standardbred State Championships in 2016, which was their first real season of showing. They also took out the Intermediate Hack Award for the Showing Season of 2015/16. They both competed in the 2015 OTT Final but with a little greeness they finished out of the Top 5, last year they showed great improvement to gain a Third Runner Up title. This year should see them strive for a higher result.
Hannah and Prince Matao also compete in Show Jumping and Eventing and regularly bring home ribbons.
Wash N Spin is a mare by Washington VC who was imported from New Zealand in 2013. Wash N Spin was lightly raced in Western Australia, having a total of seven starts and was placed on two occasions.
Shown as AP Burlesque since retiring from the racetrack in 2015, this mare has already made a name for herself on the breed show circuit, winning Supreme of Supreme at the Baldivis Pre-Royal Breed Show and Champion Mare in 2015 & Supreme Led in 2016 at Perth Royal Show. She is the current Led Champion Mare in 2016 & 2017 at Standardbred State Championships. While competing in her first season she was also awarded the 2015-16 SPPHAWA Led Horse of the Year title and has once again taken this title in 2016-17.
This mare has progressed extremely quickly under saddle and in her first season of showing in ridden she has not yet been defeated for an Intermediate Champion Sash. On several occasions she has also defeated 'Open' Graded horses for Champion awards. Her biggest achievement thus far was her Grand Champion Ridden Title at this years Standardbred State Championships, a rare feat for a horse in their first season under saddle. The pair also gained recognition at the 2016 OTT Final, where at their 6th show were sashed Fourth Overall.

Global Alliance showed ability as a 2yo, winning a Gloucester Park trial, however he did not continue in his sibling’s footsteps and was retired after one unplaced race start.
Since retiring from the racetrack, Global Alliance has displayed the versatility that the Standardbred is renowned for; participating in a range of activities such as showjumping.
At limited outings his improvement competing at events is growing vastly, the pair taking Reserve Intermediate Hack at the 2017 Standardbred State Championships followed with a Champion title at the recent SPPHAWA Autumn Show.
Unamed (AL Queen Ginger) & Catherine Macey
The unamed 7yr old mare, Shown as Arandle Lodge Queen Ginger, was not raced or trialled.
Catherine had been riding her for a friend competing mainly in barrel racing with success. Ginger was then given to Catherine as a birthday present and has now outrightly owned her for 3 years. The pair have given everything a go from eventing, dressage, breed shows and her favourite of all, showjumping.
This year has seen Catherine and Ginger compete at the SPPHAWA run events more frequently and at her first attempt to qualify for the final was the winner at the SPPHAWA Spring Show.
We wish the pair best of luck in the Final.

He has been lightly worked up into his showing debut and, although with very little experience at showing, he attended his first show at the SPPHAWA Unofficial Gala where he won the Qualifying class for the Off The Track Grand Final.
Andy is a true defination of a Track to Hack story and we hope he can continue to show his talent in the future and be a future ambassador for the breed.
